The “Smiley” Ride

Location:    Lazy “F” Guest Ranch, Smiley, TX

Registration opens on the first of the month 90 days prior to ride, January 1 at 6 am.

The Lazy “F” Guest Ranch is a seven-generation family owned working cattle ranch with 75 miles of maintained trails on about 2500 acres.  This ranch has a variety of terrain with water crossings, wooded trails, open fields and is barefoot friendly. There are a variety of wildflowers on this ranch and they should be spectacular in April! The obstacles will be challenging but fun to bring a “smile” to your face!!

If not a member of TTCC you must purchase a daily membership at $5 or a full membership for $20, payable to TTCC in a separate check. 

General Information and Requirements: 

Check-in will begin at 3:00pm on Friday, April 17.  Everyone must sign a ranch waiver in addition to the required TTCC forms. Everyone must show proof of negative Coggins test.  All dogs must be on a leash.  Scatter manure and hay.

There are 18 covered stalls which will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis. Plenty of shaded primitive camping area for generators and non-generators.  The ranch has bunkhouse rooms available for those without a LQ trailer.

Bring your swim suits to enjoy the swimming pool!  That’s if your brave enough to bear the cool spring weather!

Additional Fees:  $15 per day ranch fee; room at pool house $90/night; stall $10/night per stall.

Meals – A catered meal of Chicken Fried Steak or Chicken Fried Chicken and sides will be available for a cost of $10.50 per plate. Please let Karen Pantel know ahead of time if you will be purchasing a plate and if so your preference of  Chicken Fried Steak or Chicken Fried Chicken. 

All reservations for stalls, bunkhouse rooms, meals. etc. will be handled through Karen Pantel at [email protected].

*Each person registering for a ride must have a separate login and password. You cannot register your relative on your login, you must create a separate login with a separate email address and register them separately. The comment section cannot be used for registering another individual.  This is necessary to maintain an accurate count of riders registered for a ride.

• In the case of a full ride, you can be added to the waitlist by contacting the ride manager directly.
• Your payment 30 days prior to the date of the ride will confirm your reservation. If your payment has not been received 30 days prior to the ride, your slot will be opened for another rider and your name will be added to the wait list.  Other payment arrangements can be made by contacting the Ride Manager directly.
• Please use the comment section to state your preference for lodging.

Everyone must show proof of negative Coggins test.  All dogs must be on a leash.  Dispose of manure and garbage as instructed.   Do not attach your portable pen to any permanent structure on the property such as walls or fences.

Cancellation policy:

2.5 — Ride-Fee Cancellation Policy

If you cancel:

 7+ days prior to ride– full refund

 6-3 days prior to ride– 50%

 Less than 3 days– no refund

If management cancels the ride, you will receive a full refund.

If you have to cancel, scroll down and click: “cancel my reservation”.  Make certain you contact the ranch host to cancel any reservations you made directly with them for lodging arrangements.

Directions to ride:

From San Antonio – Take US Hwy 87 toward Victoria.  Go to Smiley, Texas.  At yellow blinking light in Smiley, continue on Hwy 87 toward Victoria for about 4.5 miles to FM 1116. Turn left (only way to turn) onto FM 1116 and go 1 mile, crossing over the Sandies Creek bridge.  The entrance to the Lazy F Guest Ranch will be a black steel pipe entrance with cattle guard. Follow the road up to the main house and look for check-in signs.

From Austin – Take US 183 to Luling (4-way stop at railroad tracks), and then continue straight on US Hwy 80 to Nixon.  Turn left onto US Hwy 87 toward Smiley and Victoria.  Go straight through Smiley toward Victoria for 4.5 miles to FM 1116.  Turn left (only way to turn) onto FM 1116 and go 1 mile, crossing over the Sandies Creek bridge.  The entrance to the Lazy F Guest Ranch will be a black steel pipe entrance with cattle guard. Follow the road up to the main house and look for check-in signs.

From Houston – Take Interstate 10 (I-10) to US Hwy 97.  Turn left on US Hwy 97 at Waelder (second exit) and go to Gonzales, TX.  As you enter Gonzales, there is a 4-way stop light with a small shopping center on the left where the American National Bank is located. This is US Hwy 90-A.  Turn right onto US Hwy 90-A and go past Wal-Mart, Tractor Supply, Caraway Ford, Guadalupe Valley Electric Coop (all on your right) and continue through the traffic light past McDonalds.  Turn left at the next traffic light which is US Hwy 183 Bypass and US Hwy 90-A.  There will be a Bucees Convenience store on your left.  Travel south towards Cuero.  Go over the Guadalupe River bridge and in one mile, turn right at the “Y” of US Hwy 183 and US Hwy 97 (to Nixon).  You will be turning onto US Hwy 97.  There will be a large covered arena on your right at this “Y”.   Travel 1 mile and cross a long low-rail bridge, and then turn left onto FM 1116 (only way to turn).  Stay on FM 1116 for 15.5 miles, passing through the small town of Pilgrim.  The entrance to the Lazy F Guest Ranch will be on your left and will be a black pipe entrance with cattle guard. Follow the road up to the main house and look for check-in signs.
