Grasslands Gallop

Location:  LBJ Grasslands, Decatur, TX             Date(s):  October 24 & 25, 2020

Originally settled in the 1800s under a variety of Homestead Acts, LBJ National Grasslands offer a 75-mile network of trails covering the wind-swept prairies where the Chisholm Trail was used to move huge herds of cattle northward, and the Comanche people roamed. Considered easy, barefoot friendly trails meander through hardwood forests to flat, high open areas with panoramic views and plenty of natural ponds. All trail is natural with road used only for crossings. Valley View Campsite, off CR 2777, is an improved permanent equestrian campground; however, there is no electricity or people water available. Composting toilets are provided. Horses may use sliding tethers. Dogs must be on a leash at all times.
