GreenFest-LRRETA Trail Challenge

FM 428 Trailhead, Ray Roberts Lake State Park Greenbelt

March 24-25, 2018

This is our 2nd TTCC on the beautiful Greenbelt at Lake Ray Roberts State Park. Ride location is approximately 45 minutes north of DFW metroplex. Trails are heavily shaded with large trees and runs beside the Elm Fork Branch of the Trinity River. The trails are mostly sandy with a few rocky areas (front boots/shoes may be advisable).

Notice change of Trailhead location.  We’ll be at the Blue Stem Grove equestrian campground in the Isle du Bois Unit. Entrance is located on FM 455, 10 miles east of Interstate 35.

Campsites are $15/night. Though the campground has no electric hookups, it is well appointed with picnic tables, hitching/tethering posts, water spigots (between each campsite), bathrooms with a shower each, a pavilion, and 12 covered horse pens ($10/night additional fee) and a grassy area for overflow camping.

The campground is comfortable, but not vast. Where possible, consider trailering and camping with a friend. Each site allows up to eight individuals (humans and horses combined), and you can save some money on the camping fees. Ride manager Linda Moore has reserved the entire campground, so we will have it all to ourselves. It’ll be cozy.

New Trail — as we’re using a different campground, we have access to a new trail for Saturday. If you haven’t already registered to attend the ride, we still have room for a few more riders. The trails are starting to bloom with Spring buds, so the trails are fragrant as well as pretty.

This event is organized by the Lake Ray Roberts Equestrian Trails Association (LRRETA) which is a group of enthusiastic, dedicated equestrians whose mission is to preserve and enhance the trails of the Greenbelt. LRRETA is a part of the Greenbelt Alliance of Denton County. The Greenbelt Alliance of Denton County is a non-profit 501(c) 3 community-based, volunteer organization that fosters awareness of the Greenbelt (trails south of the dam on road FM 455 in Pilot Point); generates public support; promotes recreational and educational opportunities; and encourages preservation of the Greenbelt in its present, scenic, natural state for the benefit of all. This event is to raise funds for trail restoration and trailhead improvements. The entire equestrian/multi-use trail is 26 miles.
